Curzon
reserves gave up their unbeaten run to a strong experienced Greenall side,
but in fairness most of the young side of Curzon looked tired due to playing
eight games in 14 days.
With most of the youngsters playing college football & also turning out for
the U18’s of Curzon, the 1st two weeks of the season has been
hectic and has caught up with most of the young players. Curzon is not using
this as an excuse for their poor second half display in a game where they
never really got going. Too many players were not on their game. In the 1st
half they tended to over play at times but at times they showed some great
stuff breaking away quickly after defending from a corner & a free kick and
should have done better in front of goal.
In the second half Curzon were guilty of giving the ball away to cheaply and
never really hurt the aging back four of Greenall. The player of the game
was Rob Hanley of Greenall who’s experience and clever play troubled Curzon
all day and he was rewarded a goal for all his efforts on 55 minutes when he
picked up the ball mid way in the Curzon half and waltzing passed three
players he slotted home past the hapless Darren Riddett.
Curzon did have chances to draw level but they were only half chances and
they failed to take them. The Game was over as a contest on the 80th minute
when again after slack defending Curzon allowed Brendan Hennessy to shoot
low to Riddett’s right from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. Curzon knew
that they had a off day but also know that during this long season they will
meet teams like Greenalls and if they are to progress they have to learn to
be stronger all around the park, give 100% work rate and to dig in at times
& work together, better as a team.
On a lighter note with the influx of foreign players coming into this
country Curzon Res fielded two players after obtaining their International
clearance this week for their squad. Xavier Riedo from Switzerland and
Miroslav Uryga from the Czech Republic. Both played and have brought their
own qualities to the squad and Curzon hope that they can be a success with
the club. Curzon travel away next week to Barton FC where they are hopeful
o bouncing back.
