It was back to the league program for the cup winners
and with plenty of points to play for they made the short trip to
Gamesley looking to revenge their defeat by Gamesley from the
Saturday before. Curzon with their regular players back in the squad
started the game as did Gamesley trying to adjust to the condition
of the pitch, it was very wet and boggy.
Both sides made mistakes and gave the ball away cheaply and for
Curzon it looked like ‘After the Lord Mayor’s parade’ but in spells
they got a grip and produced some good football catching Gamesley on
the break, Gamesley struggled with the pace that Curzon broke with
and had their keeper Steve Thomas to thank for keeping them in the
game with two great saves form Dane Buller & Jordan Leach. Patience
was needed and some composure in front of goal and after another
quick break, Buller showed his composure when he lifted the ball
over the keeper to make it 1-0. Curzon then did not look in any
danger of losing this game. Johnny Sarcevic made it two before
halftime to put them in a good position and cause Gamesley all sorts
of problems to think about at half time. At half time Curzon
realized that due to the conditions they would have to abandon
playing football from the back and play it in the final third and
with that in mind completely dominated the second half with Keeper
Darren Riddett being mostly a pedestrian.
Danny Toft thought he had score from a corner but the referee blew
because there was a substitution being made at the time, however the
corner was re-taken and this time Adam Buckley rose to head home
Curzon’s third. Gamesley had nothing in them and ran out of ideas
while Curzon continued to press forward and looked like scoring with
every attack and it wasn’t long before Sarcevic got his second and
his 22nd goal from 25 appearances which is a fantastic
return. It was a good win and now they have a run of 4 four games in
7 days starting this Tuesday away to second place Styal FC, home to
Linotype on Thursday, away to Garswood on Saturday then finishing
with Knutsford next Monday night at home.
