Match Report

Curzon traveled to Trafford and took part in a fantastic end of season game, Trafford once again showed that they are in a false position in the league as they produced a great 1st half performance and Curzon once again showed that they never give up any game and also produced a great display.  Trafford who are just going through to the end of the season while Curzon are still fighting for points to hopefully finish as high as they possibility can with 3rd spot still a mathematical chance. The 1st twenty minutes of this game was end to end football full of mistakes good football and great goals.
A mix up between two defenders allowed Rico Colulo to strike a great shot from around 25 yards past Curzon’s Keeper Darren Riddett, within a few minutes a ball forward found top scorer for Curzon, Johnny Sarcevic, who got in front of his defender and slotted past Trafford’s keeper to draw Curzon level.  It wasn’t long before Trafford were back in front when Aiden Derwent was adjudged to make a pass back to Riddett inside the 6 yard box; Trafford took full advantage and blasted home.  Johnny Sarcevic restored the status quo when again he was played in by Ben Blease and attacked the keeper, this time the keeper forced him wide but from a tight angle he finished superbly. But again just as Curzon got back into the game Trafford’s Gareth Thomas picked up the ball just inside the centre circle, un-challenged he carried the ball five yards and un-leashed a shot from around 30 yards which just flew past the full stretched, diving Riddett.
But although Curzon went in at half time 3-2 down, they hadn’t played too badly, they needed to be more direct and turn the Trafford’s back four and press early, supporting the front two and that’s what they did in the second half which saw Curzon completely control with Darren Riddett not having a save to make.  Jamie Byrne back in the squad after finishing his duties with the 1st team got Curzon back on level terms after Xavier Riedo did some clever work inside Trafford’s box, the ball pin-balled around a bit before coming to Byrne who left footed struck home.  Soon after some good play, saw a good ball played out wide to Adam Buckley who beat his marker in the air and then quickly played in a left footed cross which was met by Byrne who smashed home to Curzon the lead for the first time in the game.  It wasn’t long before Adam Buckley was again putting in another great cross from the left and this time Johnny Sarcevic smashed home his hat- trick.
Trafford were now dejected and out of the game and matters became worse when the advancing Sarcevic was brought down, Sarcevic got back up to take the spot kick and score his fourth of the night, maybe he could have let Byrne take it to get his third but Sarcevic who has now scored 28 goals in all competitions and in the running for the division’s top scorer, and is the side penalty taker took the spot kick to help his cause.  This was a good victory for Curzon because losing their last two by only one goal and playing so well it was well over due that some team was going to get the backlash.
They now entertain Knutsford in their final home game this Thursday with a 7.45 KO.
