Curzon reserves were again back in league action for the 1st
time since the 13th Oct and they produced a fantastic
display against a experienced Pilkington FC side but were denied all
three points as they were guilty of missing some good chances. But
although results are good for confidence the performance is far more
satisfying sometimes more than the result especially for the reserve
side. Pilkington FC left the Tameside Stadium using their ‘Get Out
Of Jail Free Card’ with one shot on the 45th minute and
wind assisted corner in the second was all Pilkington FC offered to
the game but the corner gave them the point although the foul on the
keeper was not seen by the referee.
Curzon Reserves were boosted by some experience themselves, Kevin
Parr a new signing from Stalybridge Celtic came in for some match
fitness as did James Ogoo & Adam Jones coming back from injury,
Keith Jones (Goalkeeper) who has been cover for Dave Carnell came in
for a much needed game. Curzon had the wind behind them for the 1st
half and took full advantage as Pilkington struggled to get out of
their half, some of the football was good to watch and the crowd
appreciated some of the one-touch stuff that Curzon produced and
they got their reward when on 27 minutes Adam Jones rose high to
head home a cross from Stuart Ball. In the second half with the
wind against them, Curzon continued to dominate most of the play and
worked extremely hard against a strong wind. They knew that the
passing had to be good and playing the long ball was not a option
and they again they played some good passing football which pleased
the management team. Jonathan Sarcevic making his full league Debut
had a great chance to put the game beyond Pilkington when he was
played in by a Jamie Byrne pass but he opted for an extra touch
which gave the defender a chance and blocked Sarcevic’s shot.
Jamie Byrne also had a good chance but again he opted for an extra
touch. Curzon was the side looking more likely to score but they
were dealt a cruel blow when on the hour mark Pilkington were
awarded a corner kick. Wind assisted and an unpunished push on the
keeper in a crowded box saw the ball curl in the top corner, Curzon
did not deserve it but that is football at times but Curzon Reserves
took great heart in their performance and look forward to visiting
Rylands FC next week.
