Curzon were brought crashing back to earth by Woodley
FC, it wasn’t that Woodley were the better side but the fact that
Curzon just did not get out of second gear for the whole ninety
minutes. Woodley should of maybe won the game when midway through
the second half they had three clear cut chance one after another
only to see keeper Steve Szklanka throw his body in front of all
three to gain Curzon the point. With four goals in this game many
people seeing the score-line would most likely think that this was
an exciting, end to end type of game but in fact it was a stop start
boring game in which both teams on the whole were poor.
Woodley took the lead after Darren Wright was given too much room on
the edge of the box but his execution was excellent as he curled his
left foot shot into the top left hand corner. It was long before
Curzon were on level terms after some poor defending Miroslav Uryga
capitalized by chipping the keeper then slotting home. But a few
minutes later Uryga, chasing a ball to cross before crossing the
touchline, completed the cross but carried on only to crash into the
‘A’ boards behind the goal hitting his head. Phyiso Kenny Hopwood
attended and decided not to take any chances and get him off to
hospital. The referee Mr. Neil Smithman called a game to a halt
until the ambulance crew arrived for the safety of Miroslav. After
20 minutes the game restarted but didn’t improve but Curzon went in
at half time 2-1 up after Captain Adam Buckley scored his fourth of
the season with a headed goal following a cross from the right.
In the second half nothing improved and both sides huffed & puffed
and played out the game but Woodley got a point from the game when
Sully Baroot was allowed waltz through the Curzon defence to slot
past Szklanka. To finish on a positive note Stuart Ball for Curzon
was outstanding throughout trying his best to lift the game and his
team and through injuries started on the left then went up front
when Urga left the park and finished in central midfield after
Curzon lost Dave Green to hamstring problems. Curzon now have a
tough trip to Pilkington next Saturday, Pilkington who are an
experienced side and themselves riding high in the division will be
a very tough test for this Curzon side but they will have to perform
a lot better than they did in this game if they are to get anything
out of it.
