Curzon reserves won their first game in the league since beating
Stalybridge Celtic way back in September which may seem an age ago
but it was good to get back on track and move up the table.
The Reserves have been playing well producing some good football
which is pleasing and the big squad is getting used to its limit.
Against a poor Rylands team Curzon dominated this game and where
never in trouble with Rylands forcing their 1st corner mid way
through the 2nd half. This game was won in the first
half an hour and a brace from Johnny Sarcevic ensured all three
points came Curzon’s way. His 1st came when centre back
Jordan Gill won a powerful header in the middle of the park and his
header went over Rylands back four for Sarcevic to run onto and slot
past the out-coming keeper into the left hand side of the net.
That goal came on 14th minute the next goal was a penalty on 30
minutes which was awarded after a fantastic move by Curzon was
stopped with a Ryands defender for some unknown reason raising his
hands to stop the cross. The ball starting on the left found Captain
Stuart Ball (Left-Mid) on the opposite flank, Ben Blease made a run
from deep calling out to Ball who looked up and played Blease in
with a great 30 yard cross field ball, Blease latching onto it
played a lovely cross into the two incoming forwards but it failed
to reach them as the defender stopped it with his hands. Sarcevic
then with the penalty sent the keeper the wrong way to tuck the ball
into the right hand side of the goal.
Obviously Rylands knew that in the 1st half they had been
out-played and they were now playing for pride, they only way they
knew how was to try and stop Curzon from playing with some hard
tackling and at times horrendous tackling and referee Paul Wilcox
had to be strong to stop the game from over-spilling into a brawl.
Curzon knew that they just needed to be patience and keep the ball
moving quickly and they created some great moves which should have
ended with a goal. But with 15 minutes to go Ben Richardson killed
the game off with a tremendous strike from just inside the box,
seeing his strike smash into the top of the net with great
controlled power. It was again from a good move down the left and
Ben Richardson playing at right back joined the play and when it
came across the box he took a touch and then let fly with his right
foot.
It was a good win and also team Captain Adam Buckley out for the
past few weeks managed a good 20 minute run out to again strengthen
our forward line. This Tuesday Curzon play in the Charter Standard
Cup against Manchester Rovers at the Manchester County HQ, Salford
Village Littleton Rd KO at 7pm. With the U18’s playing on Wednesday
in the FA Youth Cup a great chance for some of the squad players to
stake a claim for a shirt. Then next Saturday they travel to the
same venue to Play Beechfield Utd in the next round of the
Manchester County Challenge Trophy, KO at 1.30pm.
