Curzon reserves kicked off their debut in the 1st Division of the
newly named Cheshire League with an excellent win against last
season's runners up, Knutsford FC.
Curzon kicked off the game and after 6 passes without Knutsford
touching the ball recorded their 1st shot on target. This set the
tone of the game as Curzon just were the best footballing side on
the field. With 8 players aged 18 or under Curzon played with
confidence and passion and within the 1st half recorded 12 shots on
target but unfortunately with great goalkeeping from Kieran Clarke
they could not get the breakthrough they needed. Knutsford relied
heavily on their captain Adam Naylor pumping the long ball forward
but when Luke Horrocks of Curzon lost the ball on the halfway
Knutsford put a lovely ball forward which split the Curzon's defense,
found Neil Sutch who with Knutsford's 1st chance of the game,
finished with confidence.
Going in at half time one nil down Curzon were still confidence that
they could still get something out of the game. in the second half
Curzon again started well as Knutsford were still trying to turn the
Curzon's back four without much success but Curzon were still
getting frustrated in front of goal. With 30 minutes to go Curzon
made a double change bringing on Dane Buller & Die Elstrom for
Captain Adam Buckley and Ben Richardson but 10 minutes later a long
ball forward from Knutsford found Sutch again, from outside the box
he saw the keeper Karl Dean come off his line which made his mind up
early and he lobbed the ball into the net.
This goal would of killed of most teams but not Curzon they
continued to press forward and when with only seven minutes left on
the clock Dane Buller collected the ball just inside the 18 yard box
and through a crowded box shot into the top right hand corner to
half the deficit. But from then on Curzon were rampant, Luke
Horrocks won the ball created space then played in Jamie Byrne who
out muscled his marker to shoot low, left footed to the right hand
corner. With the momentum with Curzon they pushed forward again and
when a far post cross found substitute Die Elstrom, who for a small
lad rose well to head home at the far post. With only 2 minutes
left on the clock Dane Buller completed his Brace and Curzon fourth
in only 7 minutes to win the game. Curzon would have been very
disappointed to lose this game with the way they played but with
strong character, great work rate & great belief they came through.
Now look forward to meeting their old rivals again after 3 seasons,
Trafford FC (Res), Tuesday night 21st August with a 7.45 KO.
