Curzon gave up their long unbeaten run with their
worst display of the campaign Gamesley simply out played them in
every department. Curzon just never got going.
With the heavy rain throughout the game the pitch just turned into a
quagmire and football went out of the window with players from both
sides having to battle for the ball which was always stuck in the
mud. Curzon had two great chances to score and both times they
failed to take the opportunity. In the 1st half Adam
Buckley did well down the right hand side and played the ball into
Johnny Sarcevic who in turn played in Aiden Derwent to was unmarked
at the back post but he wasted his chance and in the second half
again it was Buckley who got behind the back four of Gamesley and
drove into the box, he should of taken it on but he opted to square
it to the unmarked Sarcevic on the penalty spot but the ball never
reached him as it got stuck in the mud. Sarcevic tried his best to
get there and put a shot in but by that time the defender had
recovered and got a foot to it to direct the shot over the bar.
In between Gamesley scored their two chances, the first came in the
1st half when Sam Hinchcliffe try to force the play by
taking a quick free kick. It was intercepted and the resulting cross
was finished at the second attempt. In the second half they got a
penalty after the ball was smashed at Ben Blease who was adjudged by
referee Paul Wilcox to of handled. Curzon had rested all their U18’s
due to them having a game on the Sunday and with the final this
coming Wednesday in mind but players who played and are in
contention for a place next Wednesday did not do their cause much
good with this poor display.
