With the final games of the season coming thick and
fast Curzon faced a strong experienced Garswood Utd side for the
first time this season, but not for the first time did they have to
change their side making six changes to the starting eleven which
started against Rylands only 3 days ago. Because of illness and
unavailability certain players were asked to play in unfamiliar
positions to do a job for the team. If it hadn’t been for the
excellent keeper of Garswood, Danny Cooper Curzon would have won
this game at a canter.
Curzon were excellent from start to finish, Aiden Derwent asked to
play in a central midfield position was superb 1st half
and cause Garswood all sorts of problems, Johnny Sarcevic back in
the side worked his socks off up front and for his efforts scored a
fantastic goal midway through the second half to give Curzon a well
deserved lead and his 24th goal of the season. Curzon
knew that Garswood’s threat would come from set pieces and Garswood
got back on level terms when Gary Bickerstaffe rose and powerfully
headed home from a corner.
Curzon were creating chance after chance but could not find a way
past Cooper then disaster struck when Brian Hatton was allowed to
run at Curzon’s defense and play a slide rule ball between the
centre backs for Danny Clarke to have the simple task of slotting
home. Although Curzon fought to the end they were so unlucky not to
get anything from this game. They will now go to Styal this Thursday
looking to finish the season off on a high with twelve points to
play for and a chance to revenge this defeat in ten days time when
they travel to Garswood for their last game of the season.
