To some it may seem a long time since they went to a game
and watched a ball kicked in anger, and with the UniBond
League season not starting until mid-August frustrations may be
riding high by then, but here at the Tameside Stadium we're
on countdown before we get to watch a competitive kick of the ball.
Secretary Graham Shuttleworth said "While the close season is
usually geared up to preparing the pitch for the next league
campaign, this year we've had to double our efforts to make sure
that ours is fit and ready for the Learning Disability European
Championships."
With the tournament kicking off on Sunday 20 July at Sportcity when
England open the tournament against France (KO
3pm)the club is quickly into action with a double header the
following day and there is only a 48 hour break before we do the
same again.
Graham added "As a club we consider it to be a great honour to be
able to host these games and with it so many international
team's while also providing a venue for one of the England group
games, plus a semi-final."
The club will host six of the dozen group games and the full
programme at the ground is
Monday 21 July
Holland v Germany KO 4pm
Poland v Sweden KO 7.45pm
Wednesday 23 July
Hungary v France KO 4pm
England v Portugal KO 7.45pm
Saturday 26 July
France v Portugal KO 3pm
Sunday 27 July
Germany v Sweden KO 3pm
Wednesday 30 July Semi Final
Winner Group B v Runner Up Group A KO 7.45pm
With admission only costing £2.00 for adults and £1.50 concessions
it has to be a real bargain for anyone wanting to see some
early action. A souvenir programme is also being produced and will
be on sale inside the ground.
The organisers are also looking for volunteers to help out with a
number of duties during the tournament and anyone who has 10 days to
spare can contact Phil Heap on 07920 096 459 to discuss what is
required.
In-between the Championship games we will stage our first pre-season
game against what is expected to be a strong Nottingham Forest XI, a
game organised as part of the transfer of teenage defender Richard
Tait to the midlands club earlier in the year. That game kicks off
at 7pm on Monday 28 July, and normal match day prices will apply. |

The strike partnership that plundered over 100 goals in season
2006/07 for Curzon Ashton are to be reunited after Steve Moore
signed for the Tameside club at the weekend following a 12 month
absence.
Moore, who had an injury plagued season while with Flixton, still
managed to notch over 20 goals, and if the pairing with Mike Norton
can reach anywhere near what they achieved previously, then their
manager Gary Lowe will be a happy man next season.
Lowe said "We tried to sign Steve partway through last season, but
it didn't work out, so I'm delighted that we have been able to take
him this time round. His arrival will obviously help Mike and I'm
looking forward to seeing them both in action again."
While one familiar face has returned, there's also a 'new kid on the
block' with the arrival of teenage defender James Roth, who joins
Curzon after a two-year spell with Macclesfield Town.
With 13 players already signed up for next season Lowe continues to
look to strengthen his squad for another shot at the UniBond
Division One North title.

While Steve Moore (left in the picture) is welcomed back by Mike
Norton, James Roth took the opportunity to survey the playing area
from the bench, a position he hopes he wont occupy during the
season.

Welcome to the new design of the
Curzon Ashton Football Club website, and we hope that you like the
new look. During July we will be launching a new website in
conjunction with Sponsor-Link and the UniBond League. Once this site
is up and running this site will be changed to accommodate our
Community Football and Function Room, we will put links to any news
on here so that you don't miss anything important. Enjoy the rest of
the Summer, the new season is almost here.
The following is a statement issued by the UniBond League.
OFFICIAL LEAGUE WEBSITES/CLUB WEBSITES (18 June 2008)
Eighteen UniBond League clubs have so far joined the website
partnership set up by the league with Sponsor-Link.
The partnership which will involve a new Official UniBond League
website to be launched this summer, will be a multi phased project
which will link the club websites to our main website to enable
those sites to have up to the minute news, results, scorers, league
tables which are driven through the process of updating the main
league site at centre. Clubs will also have the ability to update
their own sites with news and events which are not included in the
main league news. It is expected that the results will be on the
official website and linked club websites well before they will show
on any other site or ceefax.
As part of the project Sponsor-Link will manage the advertising on
the websites which will enable a more attractive commercial benefit
than each club trying through affiliate schemes or local one off
deals to obtain commercial worth of their club websites.
Sponsor-Link will ensure the site is compatible with the UniBond
League requirements, such as the UniBond Logo, as well as an area of
free advertising for your main sponsor if you so choose. Already
Sponsor-Link have produced substantial revenue for the clubs who
were first in to the scheme.
Phase Two of the website project is for player information to be
uploaded to the database which will enable team listings, players
appearances, goals scored etc to show on the main website and to be
mirrored on the club websites where it applies. All this added
information will make your club website the first port of call for
statistical information relating to your club. This information will
be there with no input from anyone at your club as it will pick up
the information from centre.
After Phase Two will be a Third Phase which will be embracing text
messaging both inward and outward. Some clubs currently text Non
League Vidiprinter with their goals. Despite what they may have put
in their publicity the UniBond League has not endorsed these people.
In fact to the contrary as we believe it is a job which has no
direct benefit to the clubs doing the work. It is likely that the
UniBond League will be introducing their latest scores service with
information being text from the clubs but those scores in turn sent
to subscribers who, if aligned to a club, will have a substantial
part of the subscription returned to the club of their choice. The
latest scores will also be immediate on your club website.
You can easily see that all internet development that has a
commercial benefit will stay with the UniBond clubs and not
therefore exploited by other commercial organizations who just want
the profit for themselves. Like any website development some
innovations may take longer than others but through our partnership
with Sponsor-Link you can be assured that it will be our own clubs
that are the main beneficiaries of the scheme.
The reason why I am explaining this to you is that on Saturday many
clubs actually visited the Sponsor-Link stand at our Showcase but
feedback was that many clubs did not understand about the links with
the UniBond League and how the system may be managed. Simply, if you
have a website that is struggling for visitors, editorial content,
someone to manage the site, having a commercial value, then our
“co-operative” may be the answer. There will be no pressure on any
club to abandon their own websites if they so choose but via the
UniBond League at no cost to the club an efficient club website may
be easier to run than perhaps you first thought. I would like to
think that this website scheme will not compete against the existing
high quality club sites but will certainly higher the bar for all
clubs who wish to capitalize on e-commerce and become a serious
alternative if clubs choose to go their own way for the time being.
