Curzon Ashton can confirm that defender Steven Howson has joined National League North side Southport FC.
Howson, 32, joined the club this summer from Salford City and became a regular in Manager John Flanagan’s starting line-up, a string of solid performances saw him quickly become a fan favourite.
Speaking on the departure, Manager John Flanagan commented, "We are very disappointed to lose Steve of course, but he goes with our very best wishes. It’s a great opportunity for him and it would have been wrong for us to stand in his way, he is a very popular member of the group and he will always be welcome back at the Tameside Stadium."
Howson also commented, “Firstly I’d like to say thank you ever so much, and apologies at the same time. It has been a pleasure to play for such a well-run football club with some of the best people supporting it…it might sound cliché, but I genuinely mean it.
“It’s been a short but fun stint, and it feels like I have been here years, I’d like to say a massive thank you to the management, directors, players and fans.”
“I received an offer that I could not turn down at this stage of my career/life and hope you bear no grudges on me taking this opportunity to move on, again I’d like to thank everyone who made me feel so welcome."
An integral part of the team this season, Steve will be missed by everyone at Curzon Ashton, we would like to thank him for his contribution both on and off the field and wish him the best for the future.
