Match Preview: Bradford PA Match Preview: Bradford PA

Curzon return to action on New Year’s Day, hosting Bradford Park Avenue at the Tameside Stadium at 3pm.

The Nash head into the game on the back of a defeat to the Yorkshire side, as Avenue edged the Boxing Day clash 3-1 at the Horsfall Stadium.

Despite grabbing a late equaliser through Niall Cummins, Curzon lost grasp of a point after conceding two goals in injury time, giving Bradford the 3-1 victory.

John Flanagan and his side will be looking for revenge over Avenue to return back to winning ways, after going four games unbeaten in the league, prior to the festive defeat. This run included a creditable 1-1 draw against Stockport County in Curzon’s previous home game.

The visitors come into the fixture on the back of impressive form, winning six of their last seven league games. This has left the Yorkshire side top of the form table with 12 points from five games.

Bradford’s notable form is shown in the league table, as the away side currently sit fifth in the National League North. The Nash sit in 12th place on 29 points, leaving them six oFf the play-off spots.

Manager Thoughts

Ahead of the game manager, John Flanagan stated the team needs to ‘defend better’ when Curzon meet Bradford for the second time in a week on Monday.

Flanagan commented: “Defending isn’t about flamboyancy, it’s not about having your head up and seeing a picture, it’s about being doggid, being the right side of people, making sure that you don’t get out of shape.”

Flanagan also went on to mention the importance of defending and teamwork heading into the game.

Flanagan said: “It’s all about the group thing, with the three or the four [defenders] depending on what you’re playing and if one of them doesn’t do the job properly it exposes the others. We’ve got to get people to stick to doing their jobs properly, and at the moment we’re struggling to do it for the full 90 minutes.”

Last time we met…

As mentioned, the last time the two sides locked horns was last time out, as Avenue ran out 3-1 winners on their home patch.

After an evenly split game, which both could have won the hosts took the lead on 83 minutes through Wayne Brooksby. The Nash however thought they’d salvaged a point, as Niall Cummins found the net to level the scores.

Unfortunately for Flanagan and his men, Avenue hit back with two quick fire goals, again through Brooksby, and then Oliver Johnson to leave The Nash empty handed on an overall, frustrating boxing day afternoon at the Horsfall Stadium.
